Edinburgh Omni Centre set for impressive outdoor terrace and street food hall

The Edinburgh Omni Centre is set to see a new street food hall and outdoor terrace if plans are approved by the council.

Proposals submitted by Edinburgh Street Food would see a huge new eatery created at the back of the restaurant and cinema complex, with over 10 separate vendors as well as two new bars.

With similar concepts already popular in the city, the venue would include a selection of communal dining spaces that is similar to the likes of the Bonnie and Wild food hall at the St James Quarter, and the Pitt market in Leith.

Interior plans have included the use of bright neon signs, as well as decor to suit the culture and nationality of each street food vendor.

Outdoors, the back of the Omni Centre would be transformed into an open dining terrace, with covered canopies to protect diners from the elements, as well as bright and colorful furniture.

Up-cycled materials would also be used outdoors as well as the creation of a brand new external bar that would serve the new open-air areas.

The Omni Centre have also shared their support for the proposed redevelopment of the currently vacant site, and have suggested the new outdoor area will “encourage healthy activity.”

Martin Botha, Central Manager added: “The site’s location within the Omni leisure development is unlikely to leas to an unacceptable impact on amenity for residents whether in terms of noise, disturbance, on-street activity or antisocial behavior”

The proposals are still yet to be considered by the council.
