An office building on the outskirts of Edinburgh city centre could be demolished and turned into a residential development consisting of new homes and shops.
The building, at 525 Ferry Road, was recently subject to plans to demolish the site, although it was unclear what would replace it. Recently, Artisan Real Estate and REInvest Asset Management have opened a public consultation detailing their plans to regenerate the area
The plans would see a residential-led mixed use development that would retain the basement level for car parking while bulldozing the above accommodation with a 'walkable neighbourhood' of homes and shops, reports Urban Realm.

The office building once belonged to a US financial group and is now home to 50-70 businesses ands charities who have voiced their concerns over the plans.
Outlining the benefits that the plans would being to the area, the applicant wrote: "Much of Edinburgh is presently very low density which presents challenges to achieving the goal of being a sustainable city. The Ferry Road junction is located on key movement corridors but is currently characterised by low-density suburbs, large sheds, a supermarket and car parks.
"The Brownfield First strategy needs to achieve density at such brownfield nodes to deliver the sustainable objectives of City Plan 2030. This will help to promote inclusive growth within the various communities located around Ferry Road and reconnect the north-west of Edinburgh to the city centre."
The proposals also state that the building is not suitable for adaptation or long-term use due to the fact it was designed as a combined office and data centre, both of which are now redundant as technology and work-places have moved on.
