Edinburgh Ocean Terminal homes and hotel masterplan with Debenhams demolished

Edinburgh’s Ocean Terminal could be set for a major £100 million redevelopment that would see a hotel and homes created and the old Debenhams store bulldozed.

The City of Edinburgh Council are due to hold a planning meeting next week on Wednesday October 27 to discuss the upcoming application for the redevelopment of shopping centre in Leith.

The developers, Ambassador Investments, hope to erect new buildings for “residential, hotel, office, leisure, community and other commercial uses, including food and drink and retail, and new public realm.”

And the old Debenhams store is believed to be up for demolition as part of the plan, with the multi-storey car park also set for the bulldozer.

Chris Richardson, managing director for Ambassador Investments, said: “We’re planning a transformational redevelopment that will finally realise Ocean Terminal’s potential as a leading waterfront destination, whilst placing the changing priorities of residents, businesses, visitors and shoppers centre stage.

“The retail industry and the local environment has evolved significantly in recent years and this redevelopment will create a sustainable destination that people will continue to enjoy for years to come.”

An online community consultation event took place on Thursday September 23 between 12pm and 8pm.

The Proposal of Application Notice was sent to Local Ward Councillors ( Leith Ward, Leith Walk Ward and Forth Ward), Newhaven Community Council, Leith Links Community Council, Leith Central Community Council, Trinity Community Council, Granton and District Community Council and the Cockburn Association.
