Edinburgh nightclub launches beer garden open until 5am in response to new Covid rules

Owners of an Edinburgh nightclub have announced they will be launching a new outdoor late night bar in response to the latest coronavirus rules.

The Liquid Room, like many other late night venues, has been fully reopened for just a few months as the latest restrictions would mean closing once again.

With the intention of curbing the spread of the Omicron Covid variant, Nicola Sturgeon announced on Tuesday that any indoor venue would only be able to allow in 100 people, with everyone one metre socially distanced.

Meaning nightclubs will not be able to open as usual for at least three weeks, the city centre club has revealed it will be operating an outdoor beer garden during that period.

Open seven days a week, the outdoor bar will be open for customers until 5am, the same time the club would have been open until with their festive licence.

Running from 7pm each evening, the outdoor area will be fully covered and heated, with customers able to book tables at the venue from Boxing Day right up until and including Hogmanay.

Speaking at the Scottish Parliament earlier in the week, the First Minister stated that the new steps will "help us navigate a difficult period more safely."

Laying out the new restrictions, Sturgeon said:

"First, from 26 December - inclusive - for a period of three weeks, we intend to place limits on the size of public events that can take place.

"For indoor standing events the limit will be 100; for indoor seated events it will be 200; and for outdoor events it will be 500 seated or standing.

"And we will also ask indoor hospitality and leisure venues to ensure one metre distance, not within, but between groups of people who are attending together.

"We will continue to advise people that if they are attending indoor hospitality or leisure venues - and remember our core advice remains to minimise this - there should be no more than 3 households represented in any group. "
