Edinburgh New Year's weather forecast: City set for mild and sunny start to 2022

Edinburgh looks set to experience a relatively warm and mild start to 2022, following weeks of cold weather and rain.

New Year's Eve will be predominantly wet, with heavy rain expected from as early as 3am and continuing well into late morning.

By 1pm the rain will turn lighter, though showers will continue for the remainder of the day, while the temperature will remain steady just below 10 degrees Celsius.

Things will turn drier in the city by the time the new year is rung in, with the weather remaining cloudy overnight - though there will be brief rain showers.

January 1 will start wet, with heavy rain expected at around 9am, but will quickly become drier later in the morning.

There will be brief moments of sunshine poking through the clouds across much of the late morning, and by around 3pm the sun will be out in full force.

It will also be a warmer day in the city, with a peak of 12C over much of the afternoon.

By 6pm the clouds will return, but it will be a dry evening and night - continuing into Sunday.
