Edinburgh New Year's Eve weather: How the weather is shaping up on December 31

Now that Christmas and Boxing Day have been and gone, the next - and last - major date on the calendar this year is New Year's Eve.

With the festive season beginning to wrap up, people will be looking ahead to 2022 to see what the new year brings.

Although Edinburgh's Hogmanay street party has been cancelled and instead moved online in the wake of new Covid-19 restrictions, it's important to know what kind of weather will ring in the new year.

Unfortunately, following the Hogmanay cancellation, it looks like the bad news is set to continue.

According to BBC Weather, much of Friday will be marked by "drizzle and a moderate breeze".

The morning will begin with light rain showers which will turn to drizzle by 10am, before continuing until around midday.

Temperatures will hover just below 10 degrees Celsius for much of the morning.

After this, the rain will clear for most of the afternoon and the temperature will likely rise above 10C.

Unfortunately, by 7pm the rain will return before remaining for the rest of the night - including the start of 2022.

It looks like staying warm inside will be the best thing to do this New Year's Eve for multiple reasons.
