Edinburgh New Town restaurant describes 'blow' of flood damage after year of lockdown closure

A New Town restaurant have shared their devastation at flood damage caused by yesterday's extreme rainfall in Edinburgh, describing it as a 'blow' after a year and a half of lockdown.

New Chapter on Eyre Place shared a series of images on Instagram yesterday of severe flooding inside their venue, with pots and pans utilised to try and catch the water pouring in through their roof.

However, the restaurant has said that they are 'keeping our chins up', citing that they have had to adapt already during lockdown and 'this too we'll sort out.'

The eatery stayed shut for their evening service last night (Sunday 4 July) but it is hoped that the venue will reopen as planned on Wednesday.

The team wrote on Instagram last night: "The recent downpour had caused a great deal of flooding right before we started our evening service, and we won’t unfortunately be able to reopen tonight. We are assessing the situation, and will keep you posted on here with any updates.

"It’s been so difficult for the past year and a half and this most definitely is a blow, but we are keeping our chins up. One thing we’ve most certainly learned is how to adapt, and this too we’ll sort out.

"If you had a reservation with us tonight, it would mean the world to us if you considered rescheduling. If you didn’t, we’d still love to welcome you."

Several bars, restaurants, pubs and cafes across the capital have spent this morning sharing images of devastation caused by yesterday's heavy rainfall.
