Edinburgh neighbourhood named one of the UK's 'coolest' places to live

One of Edinburgh's hippest areas has just been picked out as one of the UK's 'coolest' by a national publication.

Stockbridge is regularly named as one of the best places to live in the capital but it's also now been named as one of the hippest, beating out the likes of usual contenders Leith and Portobello to make the shortlist.

The trendy postcode has been named in a round-up of the 15 coolest neighbourhoods in the UK by The Telegraph.

Speaking about the list, the newspaper's travel team wrote: "We present 15 of our favourite urban neighbourhoods, nominated by locals and representing all four UK nations, along with the best places within them to eat, drink, shop and sleep."

In its write-up of Stockbridge, The Telegraph team gave a whistle-stop tour, describing "the village" as being "blessed" with independent shops, bars and cafés both old and new, and a thriving Sunday market.

They also heaped praise on the fact it has some of the best charity shops in the city, as well as a range of great independent bookshops, while Mr Purves’ Lighting Emporium was also picked out as one of the highlights.

Giving tips on where to head, The Telegraph offered advice on where to eat and drink, stay and shop when visiting Stockbridge.

When it comes to grabbing a bite to eat, there is a plethora of great places recommended by the team including Grams for a "sinfully delicious" breakfast/brunch, as well as The Pantry, The Pastry Section and of course, Twelve Triangles.

And for dinner, you should head for the tiny radiCibus, which they highlight for its "carefully sourced and exquisite approach to traditional Italian cooking".

While for drinks, The Last Word Saloon offers the "best cocktails in the city", and for shopping, a trip to George Mewes (for their vast selection of cheese), desirable, ethical fashion outlet Treen and Edinburgh Mercantile, for its beautiful homewares is advised.

And when it comes to somewhere to stay, The Raeburn, a handsome Georgian house turned gently stylish boutique hotel, is their choice.
