An Edinburgh mum went the extra mile to celebrate her daughters' 18th birthday during lockdown this weekend.
Jessica and Victoria Hughes joint 18th birthday plans were initially dashed, as current lockdown measures meant they were unable to leave the house, see friends or head out for their first legal drink.
However mum, Beverly, made sure that both girls would still have a birthday to remember, decorating the house inside and out with a hilarious quarantine theme.
A yellow and black theme covered the kitchen and outside of the house, with balloons, tape 'blocking off' the doors and a hilarious sign at the front of the house which read "Quarantine 18th Birthday Party. None of you are invited.
Jessica took to twitter to share her mum's display, stating "my mum has really outdone herself this time". The tweet quickly went viral, with over 2.4K retweets and 45.2K likes on the platform.
Jessica told Edinburgh Live that despite their initial 18th plans being cancelled, the twins are glad to be together and loved the surprise they were presented with:
"We felt disappointed that it isn’t what we planned but making the best of a bad situation. Luckily we’re twins so have each other!
"We planned to celebrate at Terminal V festival with our friends yesterday & have a party with our huge family today. Instead we’ll be doing our family party via Zoom!
"My mum is so creative she’s good at all things like this - it was not a surprise she came up with this! We can’t wait to celebrate when this is all over - bigger and better."
