Edinburgh mum surprises Harry Styles superfan son with trip to London to see idol

An Edinburgh mum has surprised her Harry Styles superfan son with a trip to London to see his idol live after missing out on his Murrayfield performance.

When the global superstar played Edinburgh, Abi Franklin, 31, wasn't sure if her autistic son Haylen Smith, eight, would cope with the crowds and loud music so opted to go down to the stadium and watch from afar.

But after watching her son light up outside Murrayfield she knew it was an incredible experience he couldn't miss and booked tickets for his upcoming show in London.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live Abi said: "As Haylen is autistic and I thought it'd be too much for him inside but he had such a blast at the concert on the outside that I just knew he'd have to actually go see his bestie.

"We literally booked the tickets a few days after Murrayfield as he couldn't stop talking about the show he'd heard outside in Edinburgh."

She explained: "The tickets were restricted view and £51.90 but that didn't matter as I still felt the view was fairly decent and the sounds were fabulous.

"He's had the best time and I am a firm believer in not limiting him in what he can try and just going with the flow and seeing how he gets on rather than limiting him in case he doesn't like it.

"I prefer the try-and-see approach as long as he is happy and comfortable."

"Haylen wore a jacket he helped me make with his favourite Harry quote from the Murrayfield show, 'No Scotland! No Party!' and he even has sparkles in his hair too."

Abi continued: "It was absolutely unbelievable. Harry was on top form and all the concertgoers were loving Haylen and his outfit. Plenty calling him a mini Harry which he absolutely loved of course.

"He even got his photo taken by a group of fans on the train to Wembley from the hotel. He is absolutely knackered today but we're off to explore London before heading home tomorrow."

The proud mum shared the special moment with a local group where hundreds of Edinburgh residents gushed over the joyous story.

One said: "I’ve tried to write how much I adore this as an autistic adult but I just can’t find the words so instead - I hope you had the BEST time. I’m so glad you were able to make this happen for him and decided to go for it."

Another said: "Love this! Absolutely made my night. Brilliant jacket."

While one added: "Aww this is amazing! Love the jacket! It’s brilliant! Haylen looks like a mini Harry Styles! He’s definitely rocking the look."
