Edinburgh mum prepares to spend last Christmas with young sons after terminal diagnosis

An Edinburgh mum has thanked those who have helped her and her family after she was diagnosed with terminal cancer.

Earlier this year, Louise Colquhoun, 39, was given the heartbreaking news that her cervical cancer was incurable, devastating her husband John and their three sons.

After suffering from a series of seizures in August, Louise, from Ratho, was taken for tests which then discovered she was suffering from cancer.

Despite the diagnosis, doctors were confident that she could beat the disease, and hoped the tumour could be removed completely.

However, just a few months later Louise's condition took a turn for the worse as she suffered a further six seizures and was rushed to St John’s Hospital in Livingston, where she had three blood transfusions in 48 hours.

A mum to Connor, 16, Aaron, 13, and Blair, nine, Louise was then given the news that the cancer had become incurable, reports the Daily Record.

While taking on a brutal round of chemotherapy to try and extend her life, she has now paid an emotional tribute to hundreds of people who donated almost £14,000 to the family to support them during the ordeal.

Louise said: “We have been completely overwhelmed and you have truly touched our hearts.

“We cannot emphasise enough the enormous comfort and relief you have provided in helping us relieve the financial burden.”

Preparing to spend what may be her last Christmas with her sons, Louise's sister, Emma Harden, explained that she is trying to make sure John and the boys are financially secure for after she is gone.

She added: “Louise just wants to make sure her family is comfortable so the boys and her husband have got funds there to support them for when she’s not there.

"She is just a lovely person who would do anything for anybody and give them her last penny. She is very caring.

“It’s overwhelming to see the amount of support and donations from people who care so much for her.”
