Edinburgh mum in desperate search for deaf dog missing without its medication

An Edinburgh family have been left heartbroken after their dog disappeared as they headed out for a walk on Sunday (August 29).

Eveline Lovell told Edinburgh Live that they have been devastated after 14-year-old Winnie went missing and has not been seen for days.

An older dog with arthritis, Eveline, from Mortonhall, explained that Winnie will have now gone days without her medication and will be in significant pain.

After vanishing from sight as they were beginning a walk on the Mortonhall Estate, the Lovell family have spent days desperately searching for Winnie but have so far had no luck.

Speaking about the ordeal, Eveline said:

"We had parked outside on Mounthooly Loan and were about to go into this field that we always do, I had just unclipped Winnie to go in and at that moment a woman came up to me and commented on my other dog, a new puppy.

"We can't have spoke for more than 60 seconds before I said I needed to catch up to Winnie but when I went into the field she wasn't there.

"She's never done anything like this before, she usually never strays from my side and she's also deaf, so that's why I thought she would only be a few feet away."

Despite an overwhelming surge of help from the local community not one sighting of Winnie has been reported, leaving the family at a lost end.

Adopted into the family nine years ago by Eveline's late husband, they are desperate to see her returned to them safe and well.

Eveline added: "We're devastated, and even tonight we're trying to get a tent to camp in the estate and see if we can hear her or something.

"She's the backbone of our family.

"She didn't have the best start in life, we adopted her from Dog's Trust but she was found as a stray at a farmers market in Ireland and was so terrified of everything when we first got her.

"But now she is so chilled and friendly, there were so many people and dog walkers out in Mortonhall on Sunday I can't believe that no one would have seen her. She's the type of dog to go straight up to someone and sit at their feet so she must have been seen."

Described as a Collie-Cross, Winnie is black and tan with white patches around the nose and is expected to be limping due to the lack of medication.

Anyone with any information regarding Winnie's whereabouts should contact 07940228491 or 07850308325 as soon as possible.
