An Edinburgh mum has created an impressive side business with a bespoke piñatas for parties across the Capital and Lothians.
Papier Smache Piñata Services, was started by Karen Whitehead, 48, who lives in the west of Edinburgh.
She began the business a couple of years ago during Halloween after making a pumpkin piñata as an experiment.
The reaction from friends and family made Karen think that she was onto something and so the business idea spiralled from there.
She has so far created an array of stuffed piñatas from Spongebob to Santa amongst many others, with filled piñatas going for £35 per six to eight people ad unfilled fetching £25.
The business is just a hobby according to Karen, who says she enjoys her full time job and has no plans to go full time in the piñata industry.
On making and selling piñatas, Karen said: “It all began one Halloween when I made a pumpkin piñata as an experiment, the reception was amazing from friends and family and it just kind of spiralled from there.

“I have no gift as an artist in 2D, however, I seem to be able to visualise things better in 3D and think that any shape is possible.
“They are very bespoke and I make them when I get orders in. Normally the turn around time is around four weeks weeks from the delivery being placed. I charge £35 for a filled piñata for approximately 6-8 people or £25 unfilled.

“This is very much a hobby, I find piñata making very therapeutic. I work full time in Edinburgh and I balance it by putting time aside at night or weekends.
“The most exciting and creative piñatas have been a Volkswagen motorhome, teen titans Robin, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, SpongeBob, Peppa pig, Hello Kitty and the list goes on. People are able to find me on Facebook and Instagram. “

Recently Karen was able to make a piñata for a dog birthday party, filled with doggy treats, and says that she is very adaptable to each occasion.
