Edinburgh motorists warned of delays on the roads due Trams to Newhaven works

Edinburgh road users are warned of delays due to upcoming works as part of the trams project.

The works will start on Monday November 22 at a number of locations and will cause lane closures, parking restrictions and limited pedestrian access.

Motorists are advised that the lane north of Balfour Street, between Best Kebab House and Crawford’s Furniture Saleroom, will temporarily close for around four weeks.

The pedestrian crossing across Leith Walk will move 20 metres north.

There will also be parking restrictions on the south side of Iona Street from Leith Walk junction to Buchannan St. to facilitate lining works. These will be in place from Monday 22 November for approximately one week, and a tow away scheme will be in operation.

And again on the same day the fence line will extend west on Arthur Street to accommodate hard landscaping works.

This is expected to take roughly four weeks to complete with pedestrian access to businesses maintained.

Pedestrian diversions will be in place on footways and access to shops, hospitality and leisure units on the west side will always be maintained. However, footways widths may be reduced. In some situations, these might need to be reduced further, but access will be maintained for members of the public, residents, and local shop owners.

Businesses that are currently occupying the footway will have to remove any arrangements in place to accommodate the works, this includes permit holders for hospitality venues removing all table and chairs while these works are being carried out. Businesses will be visited by project representatives ahead of these changes and any concerns can be further discussed.
