Edinburgh motorbike training school could be set for site of demolished BT offices

A new Edinburgh motorbike training school could be set to open on the grounds of demolished BT Offices.

The City of Edinburgh Council validated the proposal from Harleys Edinburgh Ltd on October 25.

The driver and driver training facility will be created at land at 357 Gorgie Road, on the site of the BT car park.

The Rider and Driver school will operate seven days a week from 8am to 8pm.

Harleys Edinburgh have moved early to assure local residents that the project will not bring noise pollution to the area.

They explain on the planning application that their proposition will in fact be good for the area and will create local jobs.

A spokesperson said: “This proposed school is likely to generate around 5 new local jobs and add customers to the local area economy.

“Given the type of use proposed were sure there will be a perception of possible noise issues relating to the proposal, but we can affirm that all the bikes/vehicles used in training are in standard form and normally silenced and quiet machines.

“There will be 24-hour security for insurance purposes and peace of mind to residents.”

They continue by adding that there has been evidence of fly tipping on the site and it would therefore be helpful for local residential amenity if the land was brought into secure productive use.

Harleys Edinburgh say they have agreed a 10-year lease on the property to operate a Rider and Driver Training facility and plan to install two storage containers for bike storage and four container for office and classroom accommodation.

The City of Edinburgh Council are expected to make a decision on the planning application in the coming weeks.
