Edinburgh Morrisons delivery vans destroyed after being set on fire outside supermarket

Two Morrisons delivery vans have been destroyed after being torched outside an Edinburgh supermarket.

Police say the shocking fires, which happened at the Gilmerton Road store, are "believed to be suspicious" and they are hunting those responsible. Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident shortly after 1am on Saturday.

A video shows how badly hit the vehicles have been, with both vans completely ruined by the blaze. In the footage people can be heard expressing their shock at the damage, while the charred remains of each vehicle remain taped off.

Edinburgh Live understands replacement delivery vans had to be brought up from Newcastle to service customers in the city. Morrisons have been contacted for comment.

Police say their enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

A spokesperson said: “Around 1.15am on Saturday, 24 July, officers were called to the Gilmerton Road area of Edinburgh, following a report of two vans on fire. The fires are believed to be suspicious and enquiries are ongoing.”
