Edinburgh mob protest outside home following reports of a criminal living on street

An angry mob descended on an Edinburgh street last night following reports of an alleged criminal living there.

The group of residents protested outside a home on Moredun Park Grove, leading to police being called to assist.

A massive police presence was pictured on the scene as they moved to protect the occupants of the property from the crowd.

Edinburgh Live reported that about 30 residents were seen standing outside of their homes protesting against the individual living in the area.

It is understood the person was not present on Monday evening.

Police confirmed the property was vandalised and the occupants removed by officers who offered them advice and assistance.

Video from the incident showed that a number of people were standing on the pavement in front of a police car that was trying to keep the crowd back.

About seven other police vehicles were also pictured at the scene, alongside a number of officers standing outside the home.

The protest took place at about 8.30pm, with cops attending to calm proceedings down.

They helped the occupants leave the property and conveyed them into police vehicles.

Residents could be heard both clapping and cheering whole officers dispersed the scene.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 8.30 pm on Monday, 16 August, 2021, police were called to a disturbance and vandalism to a house in Moredun Park Grove, Edinburgh.

"The occupants of the house were removed by police and advice and assistance given. The crowd then dispersed. Enquiries into the incident are continuing."
