Edinburgh Met Office weather forecast this weekend as SEPA alert issued for parts of Scotland

Edinburgh is set to get more warm weather this weekend as drought alerts are issued for other parts of the country.

The heatwave is expected to continue across Scotland, and it's looking like another day best spent outdoors in the Scottish capital.

Forecasters at the Met Office reckon we should see sunshine and temperatures of around 18C on Saturday afternoon, with things cooling to around 17C or 16C in the evening. While many in the city woke up to cloudy skies first thing these are likely to vanish around 1pm to make way for the sun.

On Sunday it's set to be even warmer with temperatures of 19C forecast. There could be some cloud in the morning and early afternoon, but expect blue skies and sunshine from around 3pm onwards.

The Met Office forecast suggests the heat could be cranked up again on Monday with highs of 22C.

This comes as parts of northern Scotland have been hit with a drought alert.

As reported by the Daily Record, two areas in the north, Helmsdale and Naver, are facing “significant scarcity” of water, the highest warning of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (Sepa).

Sepa chief executive Terry A’Hearn said: “Everyone agrees that water is a vital resource. We need to get used to the idea that, even in Scotland, it is a finite resource – as shown by the increasing severity of the water scarcity.

“This is just one of the consequences of climate change Scotland is facing, and it is becoming more common.

“Water scarcity is resulting in pressures on the environment and water users and businesses abstracting water must take action now to conserve water.”
