Edinburgh medics issue sledging warning after multiple casualties

If there's one bonus of Storm Christoph battering the capital in the last few days it's that Edinburgh has seen some seriously great sledging conditions.

Several images shared on social media showed families and couples head for the hills - including Arthur's Seat and the Pentlands - for some snow-filled fun.

However, top Edinburgh medics have now issued a warning to sledgers on Twitter after seeing a surge in injuries due to the winter activity.

The Edinburgh Paediatric Orthopaedics wrote that they'd seen "a lot of sledging and ice-related fractures recently" and urged locals to be careful - especially wee ones - to stay safe while out and about in wintery weather conditions.

They shared a YouTube video for advice on avoiding injury in snow and ice.

Yesterday saw several schools close for the day across Edinburgh and the Lothians due to Storm Christoph, with North Berwick High School in East Lothian telling their pupils to go out and enjoy the weather whilst they dealt with a WiFi issue in the area.
