Edinburgh Meadows to have extended toilet opening hours and streets 'washed down'

The streets surrounding The Meadows will be 'washed down' following the long Easter weekend as Edinburgh locals are expected to descend in their numbers to the popular park.

Over the last few weeks there has been several reports from neighbours of the Meadows that their streets are like 'public urinals' as park-goers try to sneakily relieve themselves.

However SNP Councillor for Southside Newington Alison Dickie has shared the news that extended measures from the police and council officials will be in place this weekend to tackle any anti-social behaviour.

Public toilets in the Meadows will be open until 8pm over the Easter weekend and 'cleansing activities will also be increased, including the washing down of local streets'.

Her full statement read: "What a joy this week to do walking meetings with constituents in the beautiful Meadows... with daffodils galore!

"Sadly though, its beauty has been tarnished with ASB. I've liaised with officers and the police in regard to the issues.

"The police are taking forward more targeted patrols to encourage compliance.

"Public toilets are open from 11am-6pm, with increased signage. And, they'll be open to 8pm over the Easter weekend.

"There will be an increased council officer presence, reminding people about litter and general behaviour. Cleansing activities are also being increased, including the washing down of local streets."

Just two weeks ago, local Nick Munro told Edinburgh Live that he and his neighbours, who live near the Meadows, had been blighted by people using their street to urinate and even defecate.

"You've got faeces and wee everywhere and they're really brazen because they're pissed", the 51-year-old said.
