Edinburgh Meadows to get new ping-pong table for park users

Edinburgh Meadows visitors will now have the option to have a game of ping-pong after planning permission was approved for the building of a sports table at the park.

An application for the erection of the free-to-use table put forward by registered charity 'Friends of the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links' read: "The proposal is for a single ping pong table to be installed on the Meadows.

"The planned tables will be concrete permanent fixtures that can be used in all weather. They require minimal maintenance and do not detract from the visual landscape of their environment.

"The main benefits of installing the tables are to further build on the range of activities that the community can engage in. It will run as a free and open service."

Permission to build the concrete ping pong table was approved last week on May 11 and will be installed near the play park and pavilion.

Convener of Friends of the Meadows and Bruntsfield Links Jim Orr told Edinburgh Live : "As chair of the trustees we’re very pleased that we got planning permission and council funding.

We want to get the table installed ASAP as it will be a great asset to the Meadows which will help people get outside and get used to having fun again. We’re very confident that it’ll be popular and if it is we hope to find funding for a second one."
