Edinburgh man slams Royal Mail after waiting over a month for Christmas presents to arrive

An Edinburgh man has criticised Royal Mail after being left waiting over a month for his parcel.

The customer, who wished not to be named, had ordered a Christmas present for his wife on December 4 from Rochdale, England.

However, weeks later, the man told Edinburgh Live that he is still waiting for the gifts to arrive and issued fears over the postage courier.

He said: "The parcel was posted to me on December 4 and it still hasn't arrived.

"I got in contact with the company, who told me that it had been sent, but that they had had other customers from the same delivery batch issue similar concerns.

In recent weeks, reports have shown Royal Mail to face extreme pressure, with one Edinburgh postman describing the company as "chaotic" and "inefficient".

Addressing the strain, the customer added:

"I am disappointed, my dad worked for Royal Mail his whole career, I understand it's been difficult but this goes beyond what is a normal delay.

"It makes me worry about other things that could be delayed, such as appointment letters for the Covid vaccine and other vital packages."

Royal Mail declined to comment on the complaint, however in December the company had issued a service update stating that delays were due to a "combination of greatly increased uptake of online Christmas shopping, in no small part driven by the recent lockdown, and the ongoing Covid restrictions", adding they are experiencing "exceptionally high volumes this year".
