Edinburgh man rushed to hospital after vile Princes Street racist attack

A man was left requiring hospital treatment after being subjected to an appalling racially motivated attack on one of Edinburgh’s busiest streets just days before Christmas.

The 24-year-old was allegedly assaulted by two men on Princes Street in the early hours of Wednesday, December 22 while on his journey home.

The victim is understood to have been subjected to a torrent of vile racist abuse before the incident.

He was later rushed to hospital to be checked over by medics after the unidentified duo fled the scene shortly after midnight.

Police have now launched an appeal for witnesses to the incident to come forward and share their information with officers in an effort to apprehend those responsible.

A Police Scotland statement read: "Police are appealing for witnesses following an assault on Princes Street, Edinburgh, which occurred just after midnight, in the early hours of December 22, 2021.

"During this incident, a 24-year-old man required hospital treatment after he was subjected to racial abuse and assaulted by two unidentified males.

"Anybody who witnessed this incident or has any further information is asked to contact police at on 101, quoting incident number 1904 of 22 December 2021."
