Edinburgh man rushed to hospital after 'serious assault' at busy local park

A man was rushed to hospital following a 'serious assault' at a busy Edinburgh park with the area taped off by police.

Officers rushed to Pilrig Park, Pilrig Street around 5:40pm on Sunday evening, April 16, following reports of an attack on a male. A 44-year-old man was taken to hospital.

Local eye witnesses reported a heavy police presence in the area with one entrance cordoned off hours later. Police have also asked anyone who witnessed the incident to get in touch.

The condition of the man and any further details are currently unknown.

They added: "Around 5.40pm on Sunday, 16 April, 2023, police were called to reports of a serious assault within Pilrig Park, Pilrig Street, Edinburgh.

"Emergency services attended and a 44 year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment.

"Police are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to get in touch by quoting incident number 2649 of Sunday, 16 April, 2023, or alternatively calling Crime stoppers on 0800 555 111."
