Edinburgh man rushed to hospital after falling from busy tram bridge

A man has been rushed to hospital in Edinburgh after falling from a local tram bridge on Thursday afternoon (October 27.)

Emergency services raced to the scene near Bankhead after passers-by had quickly called 999 following the incident, which took place on the South Gyle Access Road.

Arriving at the scene shortly after 4.30pm, paramedics had taken the man to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for further treatment.

The extent of his injuries are currently unknown.

One passer-by told Edinburgh Live: "I noticed a man walking on the tram line heading up the way, he was still on the line at this point.

"I lost sight of him then as I was walking to the traffic lights a young man approached me saying that a man had fallen off the bridge. I went to see where he fell but I couldn't get to him because of the security fence, so I called 999."

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “Officers received a report around 4.30pm on Thursday 27, October, of a man having fallen from a bridge above the South Gyle Access Road, Edinburgh.

“Emergency services attended and he was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment.”
