Edinburgh man rushed to hospital after being hit by a car near Scottish Parliament

A man was rushed to hospital after being hit by a car near the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh on Wednesday evening.

Emergency services rushed to Abbeyhill shortly before 6pm on January 6 following reports that a male had been struck by a vehicle.

The road was closed as police and ambulance crews dealt with the incident. The 49-year-old man was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

The council-run Edinburgh Travel News social media account advised that the road was off-limits for a period between Abbeyhill Crescent and Abbey Mount, with motorists urged to avoid the area if possible.

Police say the road, close to both the Scottish Parliament and the Holyrood Palace, was reopened to traffic at around 6.45pm.

A spokesperson said: "We received report of a male pedestrian having been struck by a vehicle on Abbeyhill shortly before 6pm on Wednesday, 6 January, 2021.

"The pedestrian has been taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment and the road was re-opened around 6.45pm."
