Edinburgh man left red-faced after embarrassing nightclub mix-up

A man from Edinburgh missed out on grabbing a table at CC Blooms when he mistakenly tried to book with another business.

Lewis McCaig, 20, was hoping to book a table on Saturday July 17 to celebrate his boyfriend's birthday and make the most of the Scottish sunshine.

He messaged what he thought was CC's asking for a table, only to be quickly refused by CeCe Blooms.

CeCe Blooms is in fact a florist down in West Yorkshire and not the popular gay bar on Greenside Place which is known for hosting drag nights and cabaret.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Lewis said: "We were out for my boyfriends birthday on Saturday the 17th with our friends and we just thought we would chance messaging CeCe’s to see if they had a table but didn't even realise it was the completely wrong page.

"We did reply to the florist saying they had the same name as a gay bar in Edinburgh jokingly suggesting maybe they should change their name to avoid the confusion but I don't think they were too keen on the idea," Lewis added.

"So we apologised again and that was the end of the matter."

Posting the messages on Twitter, the florist in question appeared to be confused after receiving a request to a book a table.

Lewis first messaged, "Hi, just wondering if you do bookings/have any availability for 6 people later tonight x"

Cece Blooms replied: "Hi there, think you've got the wrong number...I'm a florist??"

Lewis admitted he only wanted a table at a gay bar.

Cecilia Cashman owner of Cece Blooms says that her florist has never been mistaken for Edinburgh's CC's before.

"I've been open for two years and never had that happen before. And we're spelt differently too," She said told Edinburgh Live.

"I messaged him back and said, I just I think you've messaged the wrong page. I'm a florist."

Cecilia explained how Lewis did in fact suggest a name change for her florist shop: "So he said, sorry, you have the same name as a gay bar in Edinburgh city centre. Very confusing. You may consider changing the name to avoid confusion."

"I don't think so. But thanks anyway," she replied.

"And then he came back and I'm so sorry. That wasn't me. It was somebody else on my phone. Apologies."

The florist revealed that her shop name comes from her own nickname, 'CeCe', and like Edinburgh's CC's was also inspired by Bette Middler's character in the 1988 film, Beaches.

So Lewis can be forgiven for getting the two mixed up.

"My name is Cecilia and I've been called CeCe since I was about 13/14 years of age.

"And beaches is one of my favourite movies. So CeCe Blooms- I said if I ever opened my own florists that's what I'd call it." She said.

Cece Blooms-the florist is based in West Yorkshire and sells selection of bouquets and flower designs for different occasions.

Cecilia says that now if she ever gets anyone else mistaking her for Edinburgh's CC Blooms she knows now where to direct them.

Unfortunately, like his lucky with the florist, Lewis and his boyfriend were unable to get a table at CC's (The Edinburgh one) after releasing their error and were left to venture elsewhere for birthday refreshments.

Cece continues to sell flowers in Yorkshire.
