Edinburgh man left beaten and 'unable to walk' after group of thugs swoop in late night attack

A man who was walking home in Edinburgh was reportedly attacked by a gang of 'masked men' and left unable to walk after a late night attack in the capital.

Police sealed off McDonald Road, in the neighbourhood of Bonnington, at approximately 11pm on Wednesday October 6, the Daily Record also reports.

It has been reported by an anonymous witness that the victim was only trying to make his way home when a group of 'masked men' jumped out and beat him up.

Locals have described it as 'horrible to witness', and photos shared with Edinburgh Live show a police cordon shutting off one entrance to the street, that connects Haddington Place with the B900.

One officer is seen standing at the road entrance next to a police vehicle, and there were reports of around eight police cars racing to the scene of the incident.

An anonymous source has said: "A guy who lives a few doors down from me was on his way home and making his way along the road.

"Next minute a group of lads then jumped out and seriously attacked him.

Ambulance crews also attended the incident. (Handout)

"The guy wasn't able to walk after it and his face was also very beaten.

"It was really horrible to see."

Officers did not close any further detail at this stage.

A spokesman from the force told the Record: "We were called to an incident in McDonald Road, Edinburgh at 11pm on Wednesday.

"We are awaiting full details to come in from local officers.

"Police Scotland have no further information to pass on at this time."

The Scottish Ambulance Service have been contacted for comment.
