Edinburgh man jailed for raping teenager who was too drunk to consent

An Edinburgh man has been jailed for five years after raping a teenager who was too drunk to consent.

Neil Davidson pounced on the 19-year-old woman in at a flat in the Musselburgh area of Edinburgh after a night out in August 2019.

The High Court in Edinburgh heard the young woman had been on a night out in the city with others and had become ill during the course of the evening after consuming alcohol.

The 24-year-old accompanied the woman back to the flat in a taxi before assaulting her while she was incapable of giving or withholding consent.

Davidson was convicted of rape at the High Court in Edinburgh in August and last week was sentenced to five years imprisonment.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

Fraser Gibson, Procurator Fiscal for High Court Sexual Offences, said:

“Neil Davidson took advantage of a young woman who was incapable of giving or withholding consent.

“This was a gross abuse of trust and the period of imprisonment imposed reflects the gravity of this crime.

“Scotland’s prosecutors are committed to tackling sexual offences, and I would urge anyone who has been the victim of such offending to report it to the police and seek support.”
