Edinburgh man hit by car while trying to fix tyre at side of city bypass

A man has been hospitalised in a horrific early morning hit and run while trying to fix a tyre puncture by the side of the road on the Edinburgh bypass.

The 31-year-old suffered serious injuries when he was hit by an oncoming Audi as he attempted to repair a fault to his Volkswagen on a slip road near the Lothianburn junction shortly after 1:15am on Sunday, October 3.

The vehicle, which failed to stop following the incident, was thought to be a white Q3 or Q4 model and sped off in the direction of the Dreghorn Junction while continuing on the City Bypass route.

He received initial treatment at the scene but was quickly moved to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he remains in a stable condition.

Officers have now launched an appeal to trace the vehicle and driver responsible.

They have asked the public to be on the lookout for any car fitting the description that may have suffered bodywork damage during the collision.

Fellow drivers with dashboard cameras are also being asked to check their footage to see if they captured the vehicle.

Sergeant Jennifer Forbes of Police Scotland’s Road Policing Unit said: “Following our investigation at the scene, we believe the vehicle involved is in this incident was a white Audi Q3 or Q4 car and it will have obvious collision damage to the front bodywork.

“I would urge anyone who believes they may have seen a vehicle matching this description or something similar to get in touch.

“We would also be keen to speak to anyone who was on the City Bypass early on Sunday morning and may have dashcam footage to come forward."

Sergeant Forbes added: “Anyone with information can call 101, quoting incident 0282 of 3 October.”
