Edinburgh man dies in street after taking unwell as police treat death as 'unexplained'

An Edinburgh man has died after taking unwell in the street as emergency services rushed to the scene.

Police and paramedics attended Pilrig Street, just off Leith Walk, on Friday, March 31, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are treating the death as "unexplained" although there are no apparent suspicious circumstances.

The street was cordoned off shortly before 9am on Friday as buses could not pass the incident. Police say a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The age of the man or any further details have not been released by the police at this time.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 8.40am on Friday, 31 March, to a report of a man unwell in the Pilrig Street area of Edinburgh.

"Emergency service attended and he was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is being treated as unexplained but there are no apparent suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
