Edinburgh man creates enchanting 'Hobbit house' in his back garden

An Edinburgh man has created a fantastic 'Hobbit house' replica in his back garden.

Ali Hughson, 47, decided to transform his South Queensferry home two years ago, and has been working on the Lord of the Rings replica ever since.

A huge fan of fantasy films, Ali, set to work on the creation, building a custom made workshop by hand, an idea that started as just a sketch.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live, Ali said:

"We moved in around eight years ago and there was just a wee shed at the end of the garden.

"I have always wanted to have something like this so I set to work on it around 2 and a half years ago. It's still in progress but I kind of just designed it as I went.

"Since it's so unique some things took a while to do, like the classic round door, that took a while."

Measuring around 2.5 metres in width, the hobbit house has provided Ali with the space to work on other woodwork and commission projects, from pieces of art to home decor.

With big plans for the future, he added:

"At the moment. I'm able to work inside on a lot of pyrography and wood burning commissions, but we are also hoping to do some more work on the garden.

"I would love to have more grass and greenery on top of the hobbit house, as well as some other raised beds and plantage to make it a bit more sustainable."
