Edinburgh man charged after police chase driver before 'forcing' him to stop

A man has been charged following a police pursuit through Edinburgh streets after he failed to stop for officers.

Officers attempted to pull over the man, who was driving a silver Vauxhall Astra, on Dundee Street last night at around 9:30pm.

After refusing to stop, police gave chase along a number of roads before the driver was forcibly brought to a halt by officer's vehicles on Corstorphine Road, at Western Corner.

An eye witness shared a photo of the scene on social media, writing: "Police chase ends up in crash in Corstorphine Road/Western corner #Edinburgh."

At least two police cars and one fire engine can be seen in attendance at the scene.

A 45-year-old man has now been charged in connection with the incident.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers attempted to stop a silver Vauxhall Astra for a documents check on Dundee Street in Edinburgh around 9.35pm on Saturday, 28 March.

“The driver failed to stop and made off on various roads, eventually coming to a halt when forced to do so by police vehicles on Corstorphine Road. 

“A 45-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident.”
