Edinburgh M&S staff find 42-year-old gold wedding ring as owner urged to come forward

A 42-year-old gold wedding ring was found on the floor of an Edinburgh M&S store, and staff are desperate to reunite it with its rightful owner.

The treasured piece of jewellery was spotted by a customer in the Princes Street shop last Thursday shortly before 1pm. He promptly handed it in to workers, and they've been trying to track down the owner ever since.

Staff member Gillian Wilson operates the CCTV system at the shop, and she says the item has been a topic of conversation among staff, and they'd love nothing more than to see it back on the finger of their mystery customer.

She told Edinburgh Live the gold band wedding ring has some engraving on the inside, and a date which appears to read '15.6.79'. It's thin, and appears to have been well-worn. She reckons it is likely a ladies ring.

She added: "It was found on the ground floor in the ladieswear section, close to the till.

"We know somebody picked it up and handed it in at 12.58pm, and would have been quite distinctive, so we think it was probably dropped just before that. It may have been an elderly person given the date on the ring, so we'd love to let them know we have it.

"It's maybe just come loose when somebody has stopped to put their purse in their bag or something.

"We've all been talking about it at the store, and it would be great if we could find the owner."

The rightful owner can make themselves known to Gillian Wilson at the M&S store on Princes Street or simply ask for the duty manager.
