Edinburgh Lothian Buses targeted again with routes cancelled in Muirhouse

Lothian Buses have been forced to cancel routes in Edinburgh yet again.

Buses 14, 24, 27, 37 and 200 are currently affected, with services unable to service Pennywell Road, West Granton Road, Muirhouse Parkway and Pennywell Gardens. Lothian say this is due to anti-social activity in the area.

Service 14 is terminating on West Granton Road until further notice, with services 24 and 200 diverted via Ferry Road and West Granton Access in both directions.

Services 27 and 37 are no longer serving Pennywell Road and are instead diverted via Ferry Road, Silverknowes Road East and Silverknowes Road in both directions.

Lothian Buses confirmed news of the incidents around 6.30pm this evening. Services will be disrupted until further notice.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We were called around 6.54pm on Wednesday, 24 March, to a report of a bus window being damaged in the Pennywell Road area of Edinburgh. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.”

Last Wednesday all services were suspended from 7.30pm onwards.

At the time, Unite Regional Industrial Officer Lyn Turner told Edinburgh Live it was only a matter of time before we see a serious incident or even a fatality.

He said: "Bus drivers are turning up for work every day and running an essential service during the pandemic.

"That they are facing such attacks is absolutely disgraceful. We're one step away from a very serious injury or even a fatality. It's that serious. Drivers are frightened going to their work.

"I know that the decision [of Lothian Buses] to withdraw services wasn't taken lightly.

"The police are out doing patrols, but I do think communities can play a role in stopping these things from happening too."

We'll bring you the latest on these most recent incidents as we get them here on Edinburgh Live.
