A number of firefighters were pictured alongside an appliance at the edge of the road closure, with teams working on the incident further in.

One eyewitness said: "It looked really bad, the entire lorry had tipped over onto its side and the place was swarming with fire fighters. I hope the driver is okay. It looks like he smashed into the bridge."

Motorists in the area have been diverted away from the bridge and busy junction, with tailbacks and delays now gathering around Cameron Toll due to the closure.

Traffic is experiencing long queues all the way towards Mayfield Road and Mayfield Gardens Dalkeith Road.

Lothian Buses have alerted passengers that a number of services have been diverted due to the ongoing incident.
