Edinburgh - London trains disrupted as services cancelled due to signal fault

Trains between Edinburgh and London have been cancelled or subjected to long delays until later this evening due to a signalling fault.

Rail chiefs have urged passengers to check the latest available travel information before setting off from Waverley after an issue between North Berwick and Drem led to dozens of journeys being disrupted.

London North Eastern Rail (LNER) services to and from the Capital and King’s Cross are among those worst affected by the slowdown, with delays of up to 40 minutes on some services.

Several trains between Edinburgh and Newcastle have also been cancelled, while others heading to York are subject to long tailbacks.

LNER apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused.

A notice on their website read: “A fault with the signalling system between Drem and Longniddry is causing disruption to services between these stations.

“Trains between Dunbar / North Berwick and Edinburgh may be cancelled or delayed by up to 30 minutes.

“Disruption is expected until 22:00.

“The 18:30 Edinburgh to Newcastle due 19:58 will be cancelled. Customers are advised to travel on the next available LNER service.

“We are sorry for the inconvenience this may cause to your journey today.”
