Edinburgh locals warned 'watch your head' as scary-looking icicles appear under bridge

Whether you love it or hate it, the snow has brought about some incredible spectacles this week.

There's been local skiing over jumps in the city centre streets, while others were filmed skiing down a picturesque Victoria Street.

However, it also brought a fair bit of travel chaos with one hero volunteer being called out to rescue a stranded care worker in remote Fife.

And now everyone's favourite Edinburgh author Ian Rankin has shared a slightly terrifying picture of huge "stalactites" hiding under King’s Stables Road.

Though he joked that they're actually called icicles but stalactites sounded more dramatic - and they're clearly deserving of this distinction.

Hanging from the bridge near the Grassmarket, we're not sure we'd fancy walking underneath them, with one local writing "watch your head".

Video: Weather forecast Scotland - The outlook for the weekend from the Met Office

It comes as the Met Office recorded an overnight temperature of -23C (-9.4F) in Scotland - the lowest in more than 25 years.

It was a record-breaker, as the lowest February temperature since 1955, and the UK's coldest night since 30 December 1995.

Edinburgh had been hit with another yellow weather for Saturday. Though, according to forecasters, this now only applies to parts of East Lothian and other areas in Scotland.
