Edinburgh locals urged to line Morningside Road on Thursday to remember toddler killed in crash

The family of a three-year-old killed in a crash have asked Edinburgh locals to line Morningside Road on Thursday morning to pay their respects.

Xander Irvine, aged three, suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by a  car  travelling on  Morningside  Road around 2.30pm on Tuesday, 30 June.

The toddler's mother Victoria was also injured in the collision, and she and Xander's dad Paul have been left "devastated" after  losing their child.

A post shared on Facebook reads: "The family of Xander Irvine would like to thank the local community for their outpouring of love and support during their devastating loss.

"The funeral will be this Thursday morning and is for private family only. The funeral cortege will be driving down Morningside Road at approximately 11am and family would like as many people as possible from local homes and businesses to the line the street and pay their respects as they pass."

Flowers left at the street will be placed at the graveside the following day.

The family have also asked that anyone who is attendance at Morningside Road on Thursday morning follows social distancing guidelines.
