Edinburgh locals told 'do not travel to or from London' by train this weekend

Edinburgh residents looking to travel to London this weekend have been advised to rethink their plans as essential improvement work on the East Coast line takes place.

On Saturday February 29 and Sunday March 1 there will be no trains travelling to or from London King's Cross from Edinburgh Waverley as Network Rail work on improving the East Coast line.

There will be no trains running south of Peterborough from King's Cross on any train company.

If you were planning a weekend away on the route, train company LNER have advised to either stay in London or Edinburgh longer and travel on either side of the weekend instead.

Ticket restrictions on Friday evening will be lifted by LNER to help passengers get to where they need to go.

However, if travel is absolutely unavoidable there will be bus replacement services in place - these will add significant time to your journey and may be extremely busy.

LNER have also warned that they are expecting services on Friday 28 February and Monday 2 March to be crowded - click here to plan your journey and reserve a seat.

LNER will still be running services to London Euston across the weekend but these services are expected to be incredibly busy.
