Edinburgh locals spot huge train engine winding round tight city-centre junction

A train engine has been spotted in a rather unusual Edinburgh setting, with surprised onlookers taken aback to see the machine on city roads.

The InterCity 125 was caught on camera this morning, Friday 27, after it had been loaded onto the back of an extended lorry and appeared to be heading out of the city.

However, with the vehicle being more than a little awkward to manoeuvre, locals were shocked to see the vehicle make its way round from Roseburn Street onto Roseburn Terrace.

A tight junction at the best of times, surrounding traffic had been brought to a standstill as the lorry took a sharp left turn and began to head out towards Corstorphine.

An image taken at the junction appears to show the engine almost floating round the bend, with the lorry below hidden by cars in front.

Posted on social media by @Stellotape56, the user questioned why such a large vehicle had been allowed to make the journey at peak time hours.

They added: "Perfectly normal thing to be dragging round the streets during the school run, with no oversized vehicle escort."

However, other users quickly replied and stated that the event was more of a common occurrence than you would think, with other ScotRail engines and carriages also seen being driven out from the Haymarket depot.
