Edinburgh locals scream and shout as fireworks explode inches from police officers

Watch the terrifying moment Edinburgh police duck for safety as a huge number of fireworks are set off in Niddrie on Saturday night.

In a video uploaded to popular social media app TikTok, a crowd can be heard shouting and screaming as the fireworks explode just metres from them, and inches from where a group of police were guarding the area.

There looked to be a large presence of police in the Niddrie area at the weekend, as people celebrated Bonfire Night across Scotland.

Police Scotland had warned residents of Edinburgh earlier last week that they would be setting up nine dispersal zones, in order to combat anti-social behaviour and disorder over the Halloween and Bonfire period.

In a statement to their followers on Facebook, the Edinburgh Police Division said: "Under the Antisocial Behaviour (Scotland) Act 2004, police have a Power of Dispersal within the designated zones authorised by Superintendent David Robertson.

"This means that we can instruct any people in groups of two or more who are congregating and behaving in an antisocial manner to disperse, and if they do not live there to leave the zones, and then not to return for up to 24 hours.

"If they do return, they can be arrested. The maps will be published on our social media."

Riot police were also spotted in the video of the fireworks explosion, in order to combat crowds becoming restless and anti-social.

It is unknown whether anyone has been injured by this incident, as there have been no reported injuries in the area.
