Knights Kitchen: Edinburgh locals queue for new African street food takeaway in Leith

A new African street food takeaway has opened its doors on Leith Walk - and is already proving popular with locals.

Food market favourite Knights Kitchen have popped up all over the capital, but now the Kenyan street food business have permanent premises in Leith in a former carpet shop.

The family run business - headed up by Kenyan chef Christine Knights - brings delicious home cooked soul food 'inspired by Mama’s jikoni (kitchen)'.

Their yellow tent is a common site at markets in Leith, Stockbridge and on the Grassmarket but there's now no need to wait for the next event to get your hands on Christine's flavoured filled scran.

The team at Knights said: "Cooking and eating together is an important part of Kenyan culture and one we love to share. Though hailing from East Africa our food draws upon influences from across the continent, bringing flavours from Kenya and beyond to the streets of Edinburgh."

Dishes include Haggis Caribbean pasties, huge North African scones, samosas and warming curries and stews.

And it's great news for vegans as the majority of Christine's dishes are completely plant-based.

Knights Kitchen is at 166 Leith Walk - follow them on Instagram here.
