Edinburgh locals hit out as crowd of 'students' gather in worst hit Covid area

Edinburgh locals have been left less than impressed after a photo taken this afternoon appears to show a large group of students gathering and 'drinking take away pints' at St Patrick Square.

The densely populated area of Newington has been the worst hit area in Edinburgh for a number of weeks now, with Public Health Scotland even calling it a Covid hotspot.

The area has registered 21 cases of coronavirus in the last seven days, which is a higher number of cases than any other part of the capital.

Locals hit out at the crowd of people, who are believed to be students, with one resident suggesting that the group were giving all students a bad name.

A resident posted the photo on local Facebook group The Meadows Share at around 3pm today, penning: "St Patrick Square. Taken just now - they wonder why they are all getting a bad name?"

Locals were quick to hit out at the gathering, with one person writing: " Wtf is wrong with these people, have they no common sense to social distance and wear a mask."

Another added: "That is utterly ridiculous and to flout the rules in such a public place -beggars belief!"

"My mum had mentioned how many people were sitting with pints at the bus stop over the road there yesterday," added another. "This virus isn’t going to go away any time soon with idiots acting like this."
