Edinburgh residents have been wondering why they heard a loud and continuous rumbling noise coming from above yesterday afternoon.
At around 2.30pm on Tuesday April 6, the sound was reported with many locals left scratching their heads as to why nothing was showing up on flight radar.
But an RAF spokesperson has confirmed to Edinburgh Live that the noises likely came from USAF F-15 fighters carrying out a routine training exercise in the area.
The loud roar coming from the American twin-engine tactical fighter jets, had some locals even wondering if it was the return of thundersnow in the capital.
The sudden and continuous noise caused by the military planes which took off in West Suffolk, caused many Edinburgh residents to take to social media for answers.
One person penned: "Edinburgh - was that an aircraft over the city (nothing on Flight Radar, possibly military) - couldn't see from my location, or thundersnow? Some noise, whatever it was..."
Another wrote: "Very odd. It’s back again for me now. I’ve never heard such continual noise from an aircraft before."
"Nothing showing on ADS-B either. Heck of a noise" discussed another.
"It seems to be moving, it was loud in Portobello at first, then went quiet for 10 minutes, then reappear louder over Queensferry but could also be heard faintly in Portobello again at that time," said another resident.
A spokesperson from the RAF told Edinburgh Live: "RAF Lakenheath have confirmed that USAF F-15s were operating in that area yesterday completing routine training."
