Edinburgh locals fume as covidiots camp on Pentland Hills leaving rubbish behind

A group of covidiots camped out on the Pentland Hills, infuriating locals.

Pictures taken by a local man show what appears to be an abandoned camp site.

Neil Walker shared the pictures from the Blinkbonny area of the Pentland Hills, near the trekking centre.

The images show litter strewn over an apparent campsite, with plastic bags and a fold up chair also left behind.

Sharing the images, Neil said he hoped the littering wouldn't be the "flavour of 2021" after multiple similar incidents last year.

Police Scotland were forced to issue a warning in July last year after a spate of complaints about litter being left behind on the hills.

Visitors to the site are were warned to "show some respect" by police after incidents of tents and other camping equipment being abandoned.

In August, rangers slammed others who had left behind damaged tents, empty cans and even human waste.

But the rangers said the scenes had been "all too familiar" during lockdown as people flocked outdoors.

Speaking about the issue in the Pentlands last year, Edinburgh Police issued a statement saying: "If you're visiting any of the reservoirs or heading up the hills, please show some consideration.
