Edinburgh locals despair at crowded Princes Street Gardens amid 'stay at home' lockdown advice

Edinburgh locals have voiced their concerns about gatherings at East Princes Street Gardens after a resident shared images of the park.

In photos taken yesterday and shared with Edinburgh Live, every bench at the city centre gardens next to Waverley station can be seen taken by groups and pairs of individuals.

The images caused many locals to quickly to condemn the revellers when the shots were shared online in a local group, but the pictures divided opinions with many defending the actions of those in the pictures.

One wrote: "What happened to taking personal responsibility for yourself, others and the NHS? Absolute idiots."

Another added that "it's not just up to the police , it's about having the common sense to have enough respect for the NHS workers to bloody behave ourselves."

However, others defended the outdoors meetings, with one person writing: "Fantastic to see people getting out and enjoying the gardens" and that "walking everyday will improve and maintain overall health."

According to the current Scottish Government lockdown rules for mainland Scotland, only two people can meet outdoors.
