Edinburgh local shocked to find car smashed into bins after hearing huge 'bang'

A driver has been left with a smashed-up car after their vehicle was apparently rammed into bins on an Edinburgh road.

Shattered glass was left strewn across Dean Park Street, at the corner with Raeburn Place, in Stockbridge after the crash.

While the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, a neighbour said they were shocked by the scene after hearing "a loud bang" on Tuesday evening.

A local described the damage left behind - fearing multiple cars were involved.

She said: "Judging by the damage to the car's rear window, it looks like someone hit the bins, which crashed into the car and it looks like that has then hit another car because its bumper is all scratched."

She added: "I almost didn't see it when I was walking, I feel very sorry for whoever's car it is. The brake lights have been smashed and everything."

A mystery note has also been left on the car bonnet, as well as a message from police urging the car owner to get in touch.

Photos from the street show the large general waste bin has been left with a huge dent on the right side, closest to the main road, while the inside of the car has been left exposed with no rear window.

Elsewhere in the capital, a councillor has described one of the council’s new Spaces for People schemes as ‘a terrifying death trap’ – after drivers ignored prominent new signage installed over the weekend.

On Saturday, Edinburgh City Council road officials introduced new traffic arrangements on Silverknowes Road North, which reduced the road to one bus lane and one cycleway.

However, some drivers ignored signage stating the single lane road was now for buses only and started driving in from both ends shortly after it opened.
