Edinburgh Live readers share the best days out in capital for less than a fiver

Edinburgh is bursting at the seams of things to do, from theatre, cinema, walks, live music and loads of activities for kids.

But sometimes purse strings might be a little tighter and if there's a big group, tickets to a tourist attraction might be asking people to dig a little too deep into their pockets.

Edinburgh Live recently reported on what free things there are to do with children in Edinburgh and now we have turned to you, our readers.

We asked how far you could make your humble fiver stretch in Scotland's capital city and while we know this isn't the cheapest city, with some pointing out you could just get a pint - you lot came through.

One woman suggested a good stretch of the legs: " Walk around Corstorphine Hill. See a load of zoo animals without paying for the privilege. Love Gorgie farm. Saughton Park and Gardens. Take a walk up Arthur's Seat, or a wander in the Pentlands. Botanical Gardens."

Another listed her favourite things to do in Edinburgh which cost next to nothing: "Ravelston Woods, Corstorphine Hill, Arthur's Seat, Cramond Island, buy some snacks, awesome walks and adventures."

Although we would rather stay in Edinburgh (and we would say that, wouldn't we), one joked: "Get a bus to Glasgow!"

"Take a stroll down the union canal." Another suggested. The union canal is a stretch of water that flows from Falkirk to Edinburgh - it was originally constructed to transport coal to the city.

For the Harry Potter fans, one added: "Walk around Greyfriars to see how many Harry Potter names there is or the Childhood Museum."

We like the sound of the museums as the Scottish National Museum and Childhood museum are free which offers something for everyone.
