Edinburgh Live readers say they are 'carrying on as normal' despite Covid-19 outbreak

Amid reports of panic buying and cancelled events, its important to get a little perspective on the coronavirus outbreak.

In our All About Edinburgh Facebook group, we ran a short survey asking people how the outbreak was affecting their daily lives.

The results were overwhelming, with the vast majority saying they were "carrying on as normal although taking all the precautions seriously."

Just a handful said they were on "total lockdown" and even fewer dismissed the whole thing as "media hype."

One reader commented: "Taking precautions but getting on with life."

However another criticised the government's response, saying: "At 75 and 76 we are worried. Taking all precautions though. I've always thought big gatherings should be banned for the time being, to save lives.

"Think the UK government been pretty amateurs re this virus. There had plenty of time to react and get ready, still there is not enough equipment for our NHS, a wonderful organisation."

Posting earlier today, another reader urged caution saying: "I think we’re all I for a shock today after this Cobra meeting."

Our readers are right to stay level-headed about the Covid-19 situation.

On Wednesday, the boss of Tesco said there was absolutely no threat of supermarkets running out of food, so there's no need to stockpile.

The Daily Mirror reports John Allen saying that shortages of certain products would only be "short term" as the supply chain adjusted.

Nicola Sturgeon announced that Scotland was moving into the "delay" stage of the response to Covid-19. Schools will stay open but trips abroad will be cancelled.
